Expedition Module

An expedition is defined as a trip of one or more nights where the group is entirely self-sufficient and the module can be undertaken by both TCL and MBL award leaders. Holders of the Expedition Module will be able to lead groups within the remit of their TCL or MBL. Once a TCL award holder has completed their MBL they will then be able to lead an expedition on terrain as defined by their MBL qualification.

Pre-Entry to Expedition Training
Candidates must hold a relevant TCL or MBL award, be a current member of either British or Scottish Cycling SMBLA Expedition moduleand hold a relevant First Aid qualification.
The course will consist of a 2 day training course and an assessment that takes place over 3 days with 2 consecutive nights camping in the wild.

The course will cover:
Campcraft / Food,Stoves and Cooking / Tents / Trailside Repairs / Clothing / Bike Set-up and Load Carrying / Riding an Expedition Bike / Equpment Audit and Planning.

Expedition Assessment
The assessment will take place over 3 days with 2 consecutive nights of camping in the wild.

Certification for the Modules
Certificates for the modules will be awarded to those candiates who have sucessfully passed their assessment on the recommendation of the Tutor and who at the time of the assessments hold a valid First Aid qualification.

For the certification to remain valid a candidate must:
1.Register with SMBLA
2.Posess membership of British/Scottish Cycling
3.Hold an appropriate First Aid qualification.
